Bible Note: Steve I believe any doctrine to be established has to have 2 or 3 witnesses. Every major and minor commonly accepted doctrine established by scripture has in fact that number of witnesses in scripture. The act you mention in 2 Mac 12:42-46 does not. Therefore I do not believe it is setting precedent or doctrine but instead was merely making mention of a belief that was held by the people written about. Much like Paul mentioned in 1 Cor 15:29 talking about baptizing for the dead. We don't baptize for the dead or attempt to call that a doctrine nor do we call the book uninspired. In any case this thread is not about the Apocrypha or even necessarily Protestants and Catholics. I asked about denominations and the division in the church of Jesus Christ which goes far beyond the Apocrypha. Let me try to focus this thread by asking did God intend the Protestant church to divide into thousands of denominations or did He intend and command us to stay in one accord and submitting to the authority He put in place over us whether they be right or wrong? Or perhaps we are saying God didn’t appoint that authority and we had every right to rebel. Again I’m talking about Christians in Christian denominations not people that are actually Satan’s henchmen. EdB |
