Bible Note: Tim You said, "If Paul were still around, I would willing submit to him!" Would you? Apparently some the early churches thought they knew better than he did. It wasn't until he exercised his apostolic power(position) that they came into line. You said, "There is a difference between a valid interpretation and an invalid interpretation. Most of the differences to which you refer would not exist if everyone followed proper exgesis." Okay who decides what is proper exegesis? Perhaps your exegesis depends more on historical social customs than mine. Are you right or am I? The only one that knows for certain is God and the man that wrote the verse. Since we eliminate all oral testimony by the requirement of Sola Scriptura we don't know. Again I refer you to what is happening before our eyes with the US constitution. For years we all knew what the framers meant and their intent. However now we see men coming forward saying unless it explicitly states it we aren't buying it. They are turning the constitution around using the same principal we beat our chest over Sola Scriptura. I overstate the case. Read Barna, do your own survey, read the testimony of missionaries one of the major hindrances to Christianity is the denominational division. I have read books, sat in churches, and listened to conference speakers all downing other denominations and causing resentment and anger. If we can see do you think the world is blind to it. Or do they think we are hypocrites when we quote do unto other’s as we would have them do unto us? One of the main principals of child rearing is consistency, when a baby Christian comes into the saving knowledge of Christ to they see consistency or every man doing what is right in his own eyes. Then we sit back and wonder how all this junk gets into the church. No I don’t think I’m overstating it, in fact I might be accused of understating it. EdB EdB |
