Tim Do you believe it was God's intent to have five, six or even a hundred different interpretations of a verse of Scripture? When Paul saw the various churches misinterpreting the word he didn't offer this as their right but called them back under his authority to accept the word as he understood it. Have we assumed something that is not ours to do? Even Luther realized the can of worms he opened, he complained that every ‘rube’ was making his own doctrine. He further complained when his own disciples started to do as he had done and set their own doctrine. Luther went to the point of saying if you don't take scripture the way I do you are in danger of hell's fire. The very position he resisted from Rome. Today in a church the denomination or Pastor sets the doctrine. If I attended a church for 30 years and a new pastor comes it with doctrine that conflicts mine, I'm given the choice accept it or move on. If I stay and fight I'm accused of not submitting to authority or causing a church split. Yet isn't that exactly what happened to start that denomination to begin with. Do you really believe God intended it to be like this? EdB |

EdB, greetings, If there is a conflict (difference) in doctrine, is it minor or major? If it is major, I wonder how one can be called to a particular church or denomination. I have a problem with a pastor who sets the doctrine ... makes me think of Jim Jones. If it is minor, are we willing to not cause problems. We need to. When a church calls a pastor, the minor doctinal differences need to be agreed on what will be done. I disagree with the vast majority of Christians on when Christ died. I say it is Thursday. One could even say it is a major issue ... but I do present why I believe and don't push it. To answer your Christians I don't think God wants us to be divided like we are. Searcher |

Searcher The point I'm trying to make is in some cases with submit to authority and in others we don't. For an example and let us use a “major” doctrine. If a denomination believes a certain way and you agree you align yourself with that denomination. If however in the future that denomination changes that view or perhaps you change yours. You either remains aligned to the denomination changing your view or shoving it into the background, saying I chose to stay in submission. Or you leave going to a new denomination saying I'm not convinced by scripture therefore the denomination is error and I must find one that is correct. However we never use the words I'm in rebellion. We in effect justify our actions. But is it true justification or is it human justification. God said to be in submission to those "HE" placed over you. EdB |
