lionheart : By and large your premise is correct, but there is one small exception to what you say. Of a certain John it may be said that God looked at him and saw a Baptist (Matthew 3:1). As a Baptist I just couldn't resist pointing this out. :-) A little humor, you know. But very little! --Hank

Hi Hank, It is true that the Scriptures speak of John the Baptist; but I have always wondered about that capital "B". :)) Just a little humor. I worked for a Baptist chaplain in the U.S. Army for seventeen months. From the heart, Ray |

Well, Ray, being a Baptist myself, I opt to keep the capital B in John the Baptist. After all, he was, so far as we know, the grand daddy of all Baptists -- sort of our patron saint, as it were. If Emmaus and his brethren can claim Peter as the First Pope, we Baptists should be able to claim John as the First Baptist. I am a member of the First Baptist Church in my home town, which was without doubt named in honor of John the First Baptist. :-) .... P.S. We love wild honey but have never developed a taste for bugs, i.e., locusts. --Hank

But was John the "Immerser" :-), the only one in his day immersing? Was he the first person “baptizing”? MJH |
