EdB(:- The thing that comes to my mind is the illustration about the cords of three abing stronger. It pains me deeply when I see a couple go to the mission field on just people sending them individule support. Often their funding drops below 50 percent, and they must return to their supporters and beg for more support so they can return to the mission field. This is not so with denominations. Most always thes missionaries are fully supported, and money is not the big foccus, but rather they can devote more of their to the ministry God has called them to. Having been a part of the American Baptist and Southern Baptist, these denominations do what I feel is a better way to support missions, and other ministries. Ed, I do not think this is the only way, but for me I feel it is the most effective way. Blessings. justme |

justme, greetings, American Baptist and Southern Baptist missionaries don't have to worry about raising support, which is good ... but I wonder about the face-to-face time they have with those when they return to the US. The Baptist General Conference, which my parents were missionaries under, lets people who which missionaries need support ... plus, we visited churches ... to share what we did and our vision for the next term. I like the idea of supporting a missionary, as well as hearing from them. Plus, seeing a world map and pictures and where in the world they are. Mission emphasis has been what I looked forward to every year. We'll probably attend an SBC (we moved), so there will be adjustments. Searcher |

Dear Searcher, That is a blessed heritage that you have! The missions oriented spirit began with the Particular Baptists in England in the late 17th century. Of course, missions as we are used to thinking of it probably has its roots with people like William Carey in the late 18th century, Adonirum Judson in the early 19th century, and Lottie Moon in the early 20th century. I like what Christmas Evans said in his last sermon regarding the very first mission activity that Luke described in Acts, "The Captain of our salvation sent out twelve little boats to engage the whole fleet of hell. For a time all was enveloped in fire and smoke, and the issue of the day seemed doubtful; but when the conflict had ceased ... it was ascertained that the twelve little boats had captured three thousand of Satan's ships of war." God bless you, Searcher, as you search out a church home for you and your family. In Him, Doc |
