1 | Slain or knocked down | Eph 4:14 | khuck | 103983
I was invited to visit the church of a family member, and accepted the invite. While I was there the Pastor prayed for me as I was standing before him. He had his hand on my forehead and he was pushing me. Of Course I (wearing 2 inch heels) was pushing back against his hand, not wanting to fall. Finally he gave me a thrust knocking me to the floor, and causing much discomfort on my toosh. People gathered around me as if it was a miraculous thing. Why do they do this? What does it mean? Why is it called being slain? I have seen it done before, I have no understanding of it. -khuck |

khuck, I can certainly understand your apparent concern on this matter. As this question has been asked several times before, I might recommend that you type in the term "slain in the spirit" in the Quick Search box. Specifically, this term and practice is nowhere to be found in scripture! It is more of a "theatrical manifestation" and is at least one of the reasons the warning issued by Paul in 2 Timothy 4:1-4 was written. You'd do well to consider the words of the Apostle Paul as he writes in Eph. 4:14: "As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;" Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

3 | Slain or knocked down | Eph 4:14 | khuck | 103985
Hi Bradk It is ironic that you used: "As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;" That is one of the themes that came out in this man's sermon. I did not question my relative on the incident. Although I am to understand that I was supposedly slained in Spirit. I wanted to jump up with indignation and scream to this Pastor, "Hey why did you push me down!" I was not slained in anything, I was knocked down on my taukus. And though that particular congregation considered it a charismatic move of the Spirit. I was pretty embarassed and had to be covered by a woman with a drape, my dress flew up. Can I ask you how common is this practice? (if you might know) And thank you for the response, I am still a bit weirded out by it. Trust, I will check references that you have provided. God Bless you, -Kathy |

khuck, I'm glad that I could be something of a voice of reason to you:-) I think being "weirded out" is probably an apt description of this type of phenomena. I can't tell you how common this practice is, but it does seem to be more prevalent in the Word of Faith (WOF)movement and their churches. If you tune in to TBN (which I only recommend with reservations), you'll see the likes of Benny Hinn, Juanita Bynum, Rod Parsley, et al all engaged in this practice- regularly! You are wise to be hesitant, sceptical, and indignant at this type of nonsense. God did not ask us to check our brains out at the door! We need to be mindful, discerning, and circumspect as believers ( 1 Thess. 5:21, 1 John 4:1) Sound doctrine in my mind implies Biblically patterned practices that are also founded upon historic Orthodoxy.
