AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:14 So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth [like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men, by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit]. |
Bible Question:
I was invited to visit the church of a family member, and accepted the invite. While I was there the Pastor prayed for me as I was standing before him. He had his hand on my forehead and he was pushing me. Of Course I (wearing 2 inch heels) was pushing back against his hand, not wanting to fall. Finally he gave me a thrust knocking me to the floor, and causing much discomfort on my toosh. People gathered around me as if it was a miraculous thing. Why do they do this? What does it mean? Why is it called being slain? I have seen it done before, I have no understanding of it. -khuck |
Bible Answer: khuck, I can certainly understand your apparent concern on this matter. As this question has been asked several times before, I might recommend that you type in the term "slain in the spirit" in the Quick Search box. Specifically, this term and practice is nowhere to be found in scripture! It is more of a "theatrical manifestation" and is at least one of the reasons the warning issued by Paul in 2 Timothy 4:1-4 was written. You'd do well to consider the words of the Apostle Paul as he writes in Eph. 4:14: "As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;" Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
