AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:14 So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth [like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men, by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit]. |
Bible Question:
Radioman; I have been told that I am a Charismatic Christian, of that I am not sure. I just know that I am a believer. What is the charismatic, really? I have heard it described in so many ways. I do speak in tongues and therefore a member of my Mom's church said that is what I am. I have heard that the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of His gifts warrants the title charismatic. Please explain the term to me if you can. Your in Him, -Kathy |
Bible Answer: Khuck A Pentecostal is one that believes the manifestation of the Holy Spirit as seen in Acts and other New Testament books are in use today. A Charismatic is one that believes they need to let their emotions flow when they worship God. Charismatic are best described as having robust lively worship with lots of singing, shouting, and even some dancing or swaying with the music. Early Pentecostals came out of the holiness movement and there was little demonstrations of emotion. While they did dance before the Lord as David did, if you moved in an old Pentecostal church you had better be in the spirit. However over time many Pentecostal churches began to become more charismatic in their worship. However the trend is now in nearly very denominations. I know of one Baptist church that their worship celebration make many “charismatic church” look stoic. Obviously when you let emotions flow there is ample opportunity for flesh to abound. Then comes the problems, are we enthusiastically celebrating and worshipping God or are we putting on a show to demonstrating how ‘spiritual’ we are? Then there also the deviations such as barking, shaking, and the list goes on. I believe when we get to heaven everyone will be a little charismatic in their worship and you know what fleshly outburst won’t be a problem. EdB |
