AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:14 So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth [like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men, by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit]. |
Bible Question:
I was invited to visit the church of a family member, and accepted the invite. While I was there the Pastor prayed for me as I was standing before him. He had his hand on my forehead and he was pushing me. Of Course I (wearing 2 inch heels) was pushing back against his hand, not wanting to fall. Finally he gave me a thrust knocking me to the floor, and causing much discomfort on my toosh. People gathered around me as if it was a miraculous thing. Why do they do this? What does it mean? Why is it called being slain? I have seen it done before, I have no understanding of it. -khuck |
Bible Answer: How unfortunate that that happened to you! May the Lord have mercy on he who pushed you down. As I understand it, "slain in the Spirit" simply means that flesh is not able to stand in the manifested presence of God, and what happens usually is that one's body literally becomes weak and "submits" or falls back or forward in prostration before the Lord. The fact that someone falls to the floor does not always mean that it is by the Spirit's power, and the fact that another person may NOT fall while being prayed for does not mean that they are any less saved. It would be more fortunate if we as Christians would focus more on keeping the command of Jesus, that is, loving one another, and abide in Him that we may bear the FRUIT of the Spirit and attract others to Him, rather than seeing things like being slain in the Spirit and speaking in tongues as spiritual calling cards. He who pushed you was probably in his flesh and was not going to be satisfied until you hit the floor as a way of saving face. Don't be concerned. The Lord loves you. Continue to seek his presence. Knock and the door will be opened to you. Blessings! |
