1 | Virgin Bride of Christ | 1 Cor 14:34 | kalos | 58899
The WIFE of the LORD (OT) is not the same as the BRIDE of CHRIST (NT). "Israel Jehovah's earthly wife (Hosea 2:23), the Church the Lamb's heavenly bride (Revelation 19:7)." 'That Israel is the wife of Jehovah (Hosea 2:16-23), now disowned but yet to be restored, is the clear teaching of the passages. This relationship is not to be confounded with that of the Church of Christ. (See Scofield "John 3:29") . In the mystery of the Divine tri-unity both are true. The N.T. speaks of the Church as a virgin espoused to one husband (2 Corinthians 11:1,2) which could never be said of an adulterous wife, restored in grace. Israel is, then, to be the restored and forgiven wife of Jehovah, the Church the virgin wife of the Lamb (John 3:29; Revelation 19:6-8). Israel Jehovah's earthly wife (Hosea 2:23), the Church the Lamb's heavenly bride (Revelation 19:7)' (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Commentaries/ScofieldReferenceNotes/). |

2 | Virgin Bride of Christ | 1 Cor 14:34 | Searcher56 | 58983
Kalos, Read the context of John 3:29. I see John talking about the Jews, since that is who he was taking to. I doubt John or his listeners had the concept that the church (us Gentiles) was His bride. Do Scofield and others (they) think that He has a wife in Israel and a bride in Christ? Do they graft the two together (Rom 11:11ff) or is there a bigamist relationship? I don't see another choice ... either Israel and the church are grafted together, as one ... or they will remain separate forever. Do you (and they) agree Israel still has specific prophecies that she will be involved in ... and the church is not included ... the good, bad, beautiful and ugly? Nonetheless I see both as one at the marriage feast. What do they do with the 144,000 (Rev 7:1-8)? What do they do with other passages I cited (Isa 54:1-6; Jer 31:3-12; Eze 16:8-14; Mat 15:24)? Did they mention that during the engagement period that the woman is called the bride or wife ... and the only way out was divorce? Searcher |
