Faith keeps us saved: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)." Notice that "seek" is in the present tense which means that we are to continue to seek Him. It's more to this walk with God than to say, "I believe," and that's it, the devil believes, too. Faith is an action word. Our works which we do, being led by the Spirit of God through Jesus, show our faith. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:14-20) These works are not to be confused with works that the unsaved do. For example, there are many who take care of the poor and homeless, feed the hungry, and adopt the fatherless, but they are not saved. They won't go to the Kingdom of God just because they did those good works. Unless they repent and become part of the body of Christ, those works are in vain. It's the same when some professes to be saved, and you can't tell them from someone who is unsaved. Sometimes, people who call themselves saved are only justified by what they think the Bible says. The Holy Ghost is the teacher and without Him, the Gospel remains "hidden." If one falls away from faith, will he/she still be considered saved because of a so-called "belief?" Only in his/her eyes. God says that we are to remain saved until the end. It's not a one time deal. If there is unrepented sin in the heart of a believer, God let's us know that He is able to save us from it - we have to take responsibility and repent. "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 10:26). And if you say you no longer sin, you are a liar! (1 John 1:8-10) But we know that if we sin, we have Jesus Who will forgive us if we repent (2 John 1:1). WalkingTalkingBible |
