1 | Do our works keep us saved? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Mommapbs | 120647
WalkingTalkingBible writes: "False doctrines tell souls that "once saved always saved." That's a lie." So do our works keep us saved? |

2 | Do our works keep us saved? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120680
Faith keeps us saved: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)." Notice that "seek" is in the present tense which means that we are to continue to seek Him. It's more to this walk with God than to say, "I believe," and that's it, the devil believes, too. Faith is an action word. Our works which we do, being led by the Spirit of God through Jesus, show our faith. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:14-20) These works are not to be confused with works that the unsaved do. For example, there are many who take care of the poor and homeless, feed the hungry, and adopt the fatherless, but they are not saved. They won't go to the Kingdom of God just because they did those good works. Unless they repent and become part of the body of Christ, those works are in vain. It's the same when some professes to be saved, and you can't tell them from someone who is unsaved. Sometimes, people who call themselves saved are only justified by what they think the Bible says. The Holy Ghost is the teacher and without Him, the Gospel remains "hidden." If one falls away from faith, will he/she still be considered saved because of a so-called "belief?" Only in his/her eyes. God says that we are to remain saved until the end. It's not a one time deal. If there is unrepented sin in the heart of a believer, God let's us know that He is able to save us from it - we have to take responsibility and repent. "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 10:26). And if you say you no longer sin, you are a liar! (1 John 1:8-10) But we know that if we sin, we have Jesus Who will forgive us if we repent (2 John 1:1). WalkingTalkingBible |

3 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Mommapbs | 120688
WTB - so are you saying that the believer who willfully sins must repent of that sin or he is no longer saved? Are you saying tha if we don't confess our sin we are not forgiven of that sin?
4 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | EdB | 120689
Excuse me for butting in on this but I don't think anyone can answer this with certainty. And I wonder if God approves of us trying to apply our understanding to His supplied grace. I believe if you really love Jesus and have sinned the Holy spirit that dwells within you will eventually cause you to bend you knee in humble submission asking for God’s forgiveness. EdB |

5 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Mommapbs | 120697
EdB - Yes God's Grace is amazing! But the yeast of the pharisees is a continual pest here. Legalism is nothing more than works based salvation. I like the word "eventually" that you used, as God has recently portrayed this in the life of an individual who confessed Christ YEARS ago but has only recently evidenced the fruit of the indwelling Spirit. mommapbs |

6 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | EdB | 120698
mommapbs I agree works can be the yeast of phariseeism but does that make it a dirty word? We have so eliminated works from the church that what we have now is nothing more than a bunch of pew warmers. The Law still exists, true through it we can not achieve salvation but it remains the standard by which we are to live. We have convinced ourselves all we have to do is show up once a week, reply "by the blood of Jesus" when asked for hope of our salvation and live like hell and we will make it into heaven. I think not! Our very lives should testify of the glory of the Lord, but if we are mired down in sin without seeking repentance our life testifies of nothing more that effects of sin. we are called servants of God the servant implies there is work required, that work is fruit. If we produce no fruit we are useless and Christ tells us we will be removed from the tree. EdB |

EdB: Please support this - If we produce no fruit we are useless and Christ tells us we will be removed from the tree. What tree is this? |

8 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | EdB | 120712
Mommapbs The tree or should I say vine in John 15. And the branch that bears no fruit is the one in verse 2 John 15:1-2 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. [2] Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. EdB |

10 | Sin and the believer? | 1 Cor 12:13 | EdB | 120767
mommapbs I added this under the 120668 post but I will add it here also. Moreover I agree with Emmaus' response to you also. You give an interesting twist to verse 2 but I come from an agricultural background and I'm very familiar with grafting and cutting away non producing and pruning to increase yield. I have watched the reaction of the plants and I'm aware that even a slight reorientation of a plant to the sun can effect it's yield. The twist you give is a play on words and requires an alternate meaning over the obvious. In fact many times a graft will fail, the limb will receive nourishment but something causes the grafted limb not to produce fruit and the limb must be removed for the betterment of the tree/vine. I believe this passage is just as it states a unproductive limb is discarded. I think the twist you give is perpetuated by people that have jumped from one extreme to the other. Remember many in the Protestant church have gone way to far to the grace side of this discussion in their effort to combat what they see as works salvation of Catholicism. We need to get back into the middle of the road. Your right works do not save! But salvation without works is not true. Your also right our works come from Christ but we have to get off our backsides and move. There is no other way to reconcile this to James. Furthermore I see this as being reinforced in the parable of the wedding Matthew 22:11. I think many that depend on nothing more that verbal affirmation that Christ is Lord for their salvation is in for a rude awakening. Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments. He commanded us to keep the law as a standard to live by, to Love God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves. He also commanded us to assembly together and to make disciples. These weren't mere requests, or suggestions for righteous Christian living they were commandments given to the servants of the Lord. I believe failure to do these reveals the true state of spirit. When a man and woman fall in love they tell each other how much they love the other, but until they put that love into action it is nothing more than lip service. That is the same of many confessed love of Christ, the talk the talk but fail to walk the walk. EdB |
