1 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | BradK | 120545 | ||
WTB, Hank beat me to the punch, but my question is much the same: How does being baptized differ from "the filling" or indwelling! Secondly, what is not clear about 1 Cor. 12:13? Also, if I'm complete in Him (Col.2:10) and Christ lives in me as Galatians 2:20 says, how much more of Him can I get? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

All members (all of those who would be and are) of the body of Christ are baptized by one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). "No man can say Jesus is the Lord but by the Holy Ghost (verse 3)." Only by the Holy Ghost can a human (any human) know that Jesus is the Savior. This is what's called in the spirit "blind receiving sight." 1 Corinthians 12:13 is directed towards a church (yesterday and today) that's dealing with division among its members (11:18). Paul writes to let them know that no position, calling, or gift is above another - they are all of the same Spirit - everyone in the body of Christ is of the same Spirit. If all a soul had to do is "believe," then what would have been the purpose of the Day of Pentecost? The disciples, apostles and the other people in the upper room were all believers - Jesus had revealed Himself to them as the Savior. Matthew 16:15-17 shows us the revelation of Jesus, as the Christ, to Peter. Peter was a believer and also was among those who were told to "tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high (Luke 24:49)." The baptism of the Holy Ghost - Jesus draws (John 6:44), reveals Himself as the Savior (Luke 10:22), and gives the faith to believe (Romans 10:17). John the Baptist told the souls, ". . .He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. . ." (Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16). Fire is a typical figure of power. The indwelling of the Holy Ghost - when Jesus comes to live in the "temple" of the believer (John 7:39; 14:16-17, 26; 16:7). (Sorry it took me so long to answer, I was changing internet providers.)
