1 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | WalkingTalkingBible | 120475 | ||
Matthew 3:11 says, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:" The baptism of the Holy Ghost and the indwelling of the Holy Ghost appear to be two different events that a true believer experiences. Can anyone explain? (Please, no theological references, only respond with what the Holy Ghost, Himself, has revealed - John 14:26) Thanks in advance, WalkingTalkingBible |

Hi, WalkingTalkingBible! My understanding is that water baptism is a physical visible sign of accepting God's invitation to the Kingdom. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is Christ's Redemption on the cross accepted by a believer (I am the resurrection and the life...). Indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) is God's response to our obedience to Christ and fellowship in Christ--God will never take our choice away (choose life in order that you and your household shall live). Once our choice is manifested by witnessing to Christ, internal conviction of Faith, the Holy Spirit begin issuing forth the gifts--which as wine improves with age (though, age in spiritual growth: i.e.: continued worship and fellowship in humble obedience to Christ's words: John 14:15-17, 23-26; 16:8-11) But Christ made it clear that not all who believe will be open to God's teaching (those who were last...), our journey is an individual growth, led by the Holy Ghost, offering the Fulness of God's Love and Mercy. God Bless! Angel |
