1 | Is this about water baptism at all? | Acts 2:38 | matt2122 | 77426
You're right Ray..I don't see it defined as 'water', however, I do not know if in the context of their orientation 'baptism' would presume 'water'. Do you think the verse is referring to another baptism, like in the Holy Spirit? I know I've heard alot of different takes on this over the years. Pentacostal faith believes the baptism of the Spirit of God is a separate occasion from water baptism. I, personally, do not see enough scriptural evidence to make a hard case in that direction. Good question! |

2 | Is Mt 28:18 commanding water baptism? | Acts 2:38 | disciplerami | 77428
I have a question. Is Matthew 28:18-20 a command to receive water baptism? If so, Is Mark 16:16 a command to receive water baptism? If so, Is Acts 2:38 a command to receive water baptism? If not, then believers are commanded to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit was imparted at God's discretion, when and where God chose to pour it out, then it does not follow that all believers are commanded "Be baptized" into the name of Jesus, for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38 is talking about water baptism. I hope that helps. disciplerami |

4 | disciplerami, a disciple before baptism? | Acts 2:38 | Searcher56 | 77434
In Matthew 28:18-20 the command is to go. When they go they are to make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I commanded you ... Can one be made a disciple before the are baptized? I don't think so ... so your view of Acts 2:38 may need rethinking. Unless your view of a disciple (to follow his precepts and instructions) isn't the same as the Bible's. |

5 | disciplerami, a disciple before baptism? | Acts 2:38 | matt2122 | 77443
The definition of disciple is a good call on your part. Disciple, is a student who learns and follows the teachings of another. Maybe what we should be considering is if we are truly talking about making someone a student of Christ's teaching and His word, which would encourage baptism, or IF we are talking about Salvation which doesn't require baptism (or discipleship) for eternal life. There are many who call upon the name of the Lord and they shall be saved. I don't know that their 'ruling and reigning' with Him will have as much depth as someone who is skilled in the knowledge of His word and demonstrating accountability in biblical leadership, but the gift of eternal life is a treasure for all who call upon Him with a sincere faith in their heart.
