Ray: Never be surprised at at who might agree with you. After reading your question I went look it up in several references and they gave several renderings and your, or should I say their understang of this scripture. The answer was basic to your's and mine. I really can't take much credit for that was what I was taught in college Bible NT 101. So very little is orignal with anyone. We repeat what we have learned by or from others. I read your profile, and have you gone on your trips yet? I think your reminder to have a prostate exam and PSA blood check is vital! My grandfather died of prostrate cancer, my dad has it but he is 83. As this can be linked to being geniticaly passed down. I started these tests at 35. my PSA is 3. I take Flomax which is heavy duty, and facepossible surgery this year myself. You are on my list of those I pray for with health issues. I am so glad you are still keeping those questions to stir us into thinking about our faith. Peace and blessings to you and yours, Ray. justme |

2 | Is this about water baptism at all? | Acts 2:38 | Ray | 77413 | ||
Hi justme, Thank you for your continuing prayers for me, and I will pray for you also. I will update my profile for you concerning my trip. The difference of interpretation from the traditional in the verse that we are considering is one of capitalization. I believe that "holy spirit" should be lower case in the verse. I believe that holy spirit is the gift promised by the Holy Spirit. That is why I have spirit in the lower case for verse 18, "I will in those days pour forth of My *spirit and they shall prophecy. And (I) will grant..." Acts 11:18, "...Well then, (God) has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life." Acts 1:8, "but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be (My) witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." So my capitalization choices are upper case when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, lower case when it is poured and when it fills us. I believe that Jesus baptized with holy spirit in contrast to water. Acts 1:5, "For John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the *holy *spirit not many days from now." They were to wait for what had been promised and they received the holy spirit for power to be His witnesses. That is my understanding right now. From the heart, Ray |
