1 | What is preaching Christ? | John 7:17 | Morant61 | 167464
Greetings Mitch! You have stated it a little differently this time than before. Before, you stated that Jesus said we would be persecuted for receiving a 100 fold return. Now, you are saying that a person who receives a 100 fold return will also receive persecutions. The latter is true to what the text actually says, but not the former. There is nothing in the text to indicate that the persecution comes BECAUSE of the 100 fold increase. The text only says that persecution will come WITH it. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Is there something in the text that shows that persecution comes with it and not because of it? At any rate if it comes because of the 100 fold, or with it, is it not the same? If I am living in 100 fold, I should expect to be persecuted correct? Isn't that what we are both saying? |

Greetings Mitch! Sorry about the delay! I did not receive notification that you had responded. :-( Allow me to touch upon your questions: 1) The word 'with' indicates that persecution comes with it, but says nothing about the cause. 2) All Christians will face persecution according to Scripture, so I can't say that the persecution is because of the 100 fold or simply comes with it. Side Note: I am very particular about wording for a reason. Most false doctrine is easily disproven with Scripture. However, it usually is accepted because so many do not pay close attention to what the text actually says. It is very different to say, 'persecution accompanies blessing' or to say, 'persecution is caused by blessing'. The first is simply a statement of fact, the second is a statement of cause. So, if I seem particular, I am! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | What is preaching Christ? | John 7:17 | mitchm0521 | 167524
Its good to be particular brother, I wouldn't want to discuss the Word any other way. However, what I'm seeing here, is that the word with, yes does show you that persecution comes with the 100 fold. Thats all I'm trying to say, when you recieve the 100 fold, then you get persecution with it. Now this is a crazy illustration, but let me just go ahead and say it... Lets say I buy a brand new dodge truck, and when you purchase this particular truck, you get a person with it that follows you around and throws pie in your face all day long. I could say I have the pie throwing man because I bought the truck? Because he came with the truck... correct? Thats all I"m saying brother. I'm saying you get the persecution, when you get the 100 fold. Mitch |

Greetings Mitch! Greek is a very precise language. The prepostition translated as 'with' does not indicate cause. Therefore, textually it would be inaccurate to say that the 100 fold return is the cause of the persectution. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Even if it doesn't indicate 'cause' as you say. I'll believe that... actually give me some insight, I understand we read the Greek, and go on it, but is that what Jesus would have spoken in, or would he have spoken in Aramaic? Anyways.... the text clearly shows that the persecutions come with the 100 fold. So we can easily say if you have the 100 fold.. you have the persecutions.. .and on the same note, you can also say that if you dont hae the 100 fold, those persecutions that come with giving up something for the Lord, won't be with you then will they? If you get A, you get B. To get rid of B, don't get A... correct? |

7 | What is preaching Christ? | John 7:17 | Morant61 | 167571
Greetings Mitch! It really doesn't matter what language Jesus spoke, since the inspired word of God was written in Greek (at least the NT was). We have to go by what the text actually says, not what we want it to say. Your final A / B illustration doesn't work because a) We don't know the relationship between A and B; and b) Persecution is common to all believers in Scripture. :-) Anyway, I have to get to bed. I work nights! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Well you can try to read it however you want. From what I see in the passsage, the Word says if you give up those things, you get 100 fold in return (except wives ) and you get persecutions. When I learned cause and effect in grammar school I was tarught you don't have to use the words such as because and since, it can be implied. And when you tell me that I get such and such, and say with such and such, then you easily show me that one comes with the other, meaning if I don't have one, i wont get that other. I know bleievers suffer persecution but I bleive this scripture is showing us that there is persecution which comes wtih this 100 fold return. Meaning, someone who has the 100 fold in their lives, might be suffering something that someone who doesn't. Thats all I'm saying, the word says persecution comes with the 100 fold. Its that simple. God Bless, Mitch |
