Ebrain: I'm not sure I understand how your reply answers sgosh's questions, which are: "Why would the Holy Spirit teach people totally different things on the same Scrpiture?" "Can it be assumed the reason for the division among Christians is the fact that some are not being guided by the Holy Spirit - Spirit of Truth?" Grace to you, Kalos |

Thank you Kalos. What is really concerning sgosh is that as there are different interpretations of Scripture, how can he be sure that he can obtain the correct one. That is why I drew his attention to the verses refered to. In other words, the Holy Spirit has to be allowed by you to reveal the truth to you. This is clearly demonstreatd by our Lord Jesus at John 5:30, where Jesus tells us that adopting the attitude of "Not my will, but thine be done" enables Him to speak as He did at John 7:16. I would conclude from this that christians who arrive at a wrong interpretation of Scripture, do so because they do not do what Jesus makes clear must be done, if the Spirit is to reveal truth to them. It must, however, be pointed out that sometimes a verse of Scripture may have more than one interpretation, as for example, Hos 11:1, with Matt 2;15. |

Interpretation-Explain the meaning of. To my understanding and belief, there is never more than one interpretation of scripture. What God meant when He said, and/or, inspired something to be said or written down, is what He meant. There is no new or different meaning that can be legitimately assigned. One can not apply a new or different "meaning" to what God has said, however, one may find new and different ways of applying the meaning to circumstances. Hope this helps, Jeff |

Thank you Jeff for your post, please let me know who you think the Lord is talking about in the 11th Chapter of Hosea, and who He is talking about at Matthew 2:13-15. Thank you. Every blessing. Edwin. |

Hello brother Edwin, Hosea is referring to Israel, that is the Nation or people. The Israelites. The passage in Matthew is talking about Jesus. Of course there are others mentioned in both places. Why do you ask? Jeff |

To show that a passage of Scripture can have more than one meaning/understanding/interptetation, which you maintained it could not, but thank you for admitting that "Of course there others mentioned in both places" Bless you brother Jeff. Edwin. |

Hello Edwin, Please know that I am not wanting to argue for the sake of arguing. But your statement simply makes no sense. This was not "a" passage of scripture that had more than one meaning/understanding/interpretation. It was two different passages in two different books in two different testaments talking about two different "who's". So I'm sorry. I don't follow your logic at all. Perhaps you might study both of the passages more deeply and gain better insight as to what is happening in each of them and what is taught through them. very sincerely, Jeff |
