Hi Mark, When people in the Scriptures are given a specific task, the Spirit of God comes upon them. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, or as I would say holy spirit, is more like Colossians 3:16 states it, "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you,...singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." I would say that being filled with the holy spirit is having the word of God in your heart and teaching and admonishing one another. You are always ready to express the word of God. Janae knows the words of God especially in the words that she sings and the people are blessed by the spirit and words of the song. We are to be filled with the holy spirit and thereby we receive power to be His witnesses when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. Acts 1:5-8. That is how I see it. From the heart, Ray |

Ray, please believe me I've tried. Tried as hard as I know how to try. But still I am unable to understand what you're driving at when you speak of the holy spirit. The only Holy Spirit that I know anything about is the Spirit of God, the third Person in the Triunity. I know of no (lower case) holy spirit being taught in Scripture. Lower case spirit, yes; lower case holy spirit, no. And I've never read any orthodox exegete who taught such a thing. --Hank | ||||||

Hi Hank, (and Ray!) I've had a difficult time understanding what Ray is talking about also, even to the point of giving up. But I think I know now, Ray, let me know if I am right :-) By (lower case) holy spirit, are you referring to the new creature, or as in Ephesian 4:24 "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."? Is this "holy spirit" you speak of. I know there was no upper/lower case in the originals, and that the use of capitalization shows the translator's interpretation rather than anything actually contained in the text. In thinking of these texts which you have discussing in this way, differentiating between Holy Spirit and holy spirit, is this a differentiation between the Spirit of God, and the work He has done in us? Is this what you mean? Love in Christ, Mark |
