1 | Grace AND? | Matt 6:20 | Emmaus | 120374
Tim, Grace preceeds works and even faith. Without it there is no faith and no works of faith. The initial grace of justification is always gratituous. Grace through faith which has works of mercy as indicated in Matt 25. Not "easy believeism" faith. James 2:13,19 "For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy;mercy triumphs over judgment. You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder." James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. Emmaus |

2 | Grace AND? | Matt 6:20 | Morant61 | 120391
Greetings Emmaus! We argee that justification is always initially by grace. The question where we may differ is whether or not our continuing justification is also by grace only. I believe that Scripture teaches that we are saved and kept by grace. Once justified, it is a finished transaction that is not ever dependent upon the things that I do. So, if I fail to pay my tithe this week, I don't cease to be justified. If I tell a lie, I don't cease to be justified. There is nothing that I can do or fail to do which can make me cease to be a Christian since salvation is not based upon what I do anyway. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
