1 | Please explain! | Matt 24:1 | Taleb | 78402 | ||
First of all Mommaphs, one must understand what Scripture mentions about the “sun, moon and stars”. Jesus’ disciples UNDERSTOOD what Jesus was stating because they understood HOW Scripture continually uses that kind of terminology. Canceling Psalms 148 was a tongue-in-cheek way of saying, contrary to some erroneous doctrines about the end of the world that states the physical destruction of the world, won’t happen. Genesis 37:5-11 is ONLY ONE OF MANY such “mentionings”. Immediately after (no pun intended) Joseph described his dream, Jacob CORRECTLY UNDERSTOOD what the terminology meant – he said, “Are all of us, then, myself, (sun) your mother (moon) and your brothers (stars) to come and bow to the ground before you?” Don't forget. The twelve sons (stars) represented ALL 12 tribes of Israel. Joseph was a "type of Christ". What Jesus told the disciples they accepted it, as all the others through out the Old Testament. The sun, moon and stars, Jesus rerferred to, represented the entirety of Judea and it’s way of life. It is also what Hebrews 12:26-27 mentioned, before the destruction of everything in 70 A.D. that the powers of heaven will be shaken. Why were the “heavens” to be shaken? To REMOVE those things, the things mentioned in the previous chapters of Hebrews, things that men created - e.g. temple, priests, sacrifices, etc. (not literal sun, stars, moon). Why? So those things that are Not Created with hands may remain. What things? Gospel, grace, etc. That's when IT happened, as Jesus said it would. I apologize this is sooooooooo short, when there is sooooooooooooo much that can, and needs to be stated. Respectfully, Taleb |

Greetings Taleb - I understand the passing away of the old covenant relationship that you have described, yet from what you have written, I hear you saying that you expect an end to the physical world as we know it. May I re-ask: What exactly is YOUR postion on the "end times" as described in The Revelation of Jesus Christ to John? (Basically, I see Mt 24 as a prophetic chapter, yet I can easily grasp what you are saying has already been fulfilled.) mpmmapbs |

Mommapbs, I am saying, Matthew 24 HAS BEEN FULFILLED according to what Jesus proclaimed to His disciples. Today, too many believe what they read in fictional books and movies about the “end-times, RATHER than understand what Scripture and HIS-story told us how those same “end-times” occurred. MY position on the “end-times”, as described in the Revelation of Jesus Christ to John, is best explained this way. I began with the “You might not make it home from Church before the rapture.” Of course, as a new believer, I believed it because it was what I was taught, even if the teaching was gross error. Then I met someone who told me I had to go through the terrible tribulation. What confused me was he used the same verses to prove his point. This made me into a Berean-type. I studied to prove “my theory”. But the deeper I allowed my studies to go the more questions I had. Those many questions ONLY brought answers from Scripture which disproved “my theory”. For example: 1st Cor. 15:51 showed me a hole in my pre-trib theory. “…at the LAST trumpet, … we shall all be changed” brought the question, how many trumpets are there? Revelations counts out seven. What does Revelations say about the LAST one? Rev. 10:7 told me after the seventh (last) trumpet sounds, THEN the mystery of God, which He gave His prophets, would be FINISHED. What did God tell the prophets? That made me dig deeper into studing them. From my ongoing studies, I have discovered what the multitudes who have gone before me discovered. The sounding of the LAST trumpet DID exactly what God said it would do in Matt. Mark, Luke, etc. The Scripture is FULL of “clues” to help us understand the “mystery”. Finally I was able to honestly believe, not merely assent, that ALL Scripture CAN BE used for “refuting error”. For me to believe otherwise I would have to discount 2 Tim 3:16, because all the other theories HAVE TO “leave out” too much of the “ALL Scripture.” Blessings upon you, Taleb |

Greetings Taleb, I personally believe in the "pre-wrath" rapture of the Church. Yet, I do not agree that everything in Mt 24 has been fulfilled. In particular Mt 24:31. I see Mt 24 as a prophecy mainly for the remnant of Israel. Israel is the "apple of His eye." We would do well to honor this people group as such. As gentile believers, we are "ingraphed branches." Let us remember that that there indeed is one chosen plant of God (Israel) into which we have had the privilege of being placed by/through Christ. We would also do well to remember that the current world situation is a physical manifestion of a spiritual reality. We are seeing "antichrist" at work in our midst! And yet, it is easy to see how many will be deceived! The call for peace rings hollow when there will be no peace until the Prince of Peace arrives to reign and restore! May God be glorified as we encourage other to "look up!" - for indeed, our redemption draws near! Blessings to you! mommapbs |

Mommapbs, thank you stating “where you stand”. Like I stated, I used to believe likewise. In my research, and I love doing research, I have discovered how, and when, and who “invented” the doctrine about rapture. Until the mid-1800’s there was no such teaching. Interesting study. I’m so glad “our salvation” doesn’t depend on such. :) I am great friends who belief opposite to me. Respectfully, Taleb |
