1 | What does "send her away" refer to? | Matt 1:19 | John Reformed | 63492
Dear Ed, Thank you for your reply. Sir Pent may have a strong case based upon God's providential and special care regarding His Word is concerned. I do not argue against that view. As you know, I am an ardent proponent of God's soverign rule over all things which He has created. On the other hand, He has not chosen to reveal to us everything we would like to know, but only that which He desires for us to know. These things are those which are "written", or Holy Scripture. There is no scripture that I am aware of that specifcaly refers to copies or translations as being inerrant. Thankfully we have such a wealth of ancient fragments that we rest assured in the integrity of the Greek and Hebrew texts. But! Not all of the copies of the original autographa are exactly alike. If it were not for the fact that we have many differnt copys from many different copiests, to compare agaist one another, we would not have the concrete evidence that supports our faith in it's inerrancy. This may not have been a problem for believers, but our apologists would have had a hard time with sceptics. Brother John |

2 | What does "send her away" refer to? | Matt 1:19 | EdB | 63499
John You used the term "Not all of the copies of the original autographa are exactly alike." I assume you know that no original manuscripts or autographs exist, so when you say copies of the original you mean in fact copies and not the originals themselves. I only mention this because we do not want anyone to mistakenly think the original manuscripts have been found. EdB |

3 | What does "send her away" refer to? | Matt 1:19 | John Reformed | 63503
Ed, Yes, I did mean to say copies of the autographa and not the original manuscripts themselves. Iwould also like to make it very clear that I believe the recreations of the original manuscripts that we have today are accurate and can be fully trusted as God's inerrant Word. But I don't ascribe inerrancy to translations of the Bible. This is by no means a criticism of our modern translations. I believe that they are wonderful examples of God's providence. However, they must yield themselves to the copies of the Greek and Hebrew texts. Do you know of any publisher or translator that claims inerrancy for their work? John John |

4 | What does "send her away" refer to? | Matt 1:19 | EdB | 63509
John I agree our translations are not inerrant, however I believe them to be divinely protected and so close to the original there is no need for worry. Unless we talk about the TNIV travesty committed by Zondervan EdB |
