1 | Are you refering to the thief ? | Matt 10:1 | srbaegon | 54012
Hello McGracer I've been enjoying your input on the torum. Welcome. Your comment: "The thief on the cross WAS under the Old Covenant for Hebrews makes it clear that the New Covenant did not go into effect UNTIL Christ shed His blood - Heb 9:17." Wouldn't that mean the thief was under the new covenant? The Lord died first. The legs of the others had to be broken to speed their deaths. John 19:32-33 (ESV) So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. [33] But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Steve |

2 | Are you refering to the thief ? | Matt 10:1 | McGracer | 54014
Hi Steve, You are CORRECT, sir! :) I was wrong! Good thing my post was only worth two cents. :) So the thief on the cross did die under the New Covenant! For the New Covenant is in Christ's precious blood. Thank you for gently correcting me! I really appreciate it! Tim has made the excellent point that ALL believers are saved by faith in God, OT or NT. This is the crux of Christianity. It is faith in what God has done. Praise Him for the precious blood of the Lamb which took away our sins and His wonderful life that now indwells these fragile temples of clay - Col 3:4. McGracer |

3 | Are you refering to the thief ? | Matt 10:1 | In the Andes | 54107
I'm sorry, if the thief was with Jesus THAT DAY in paradise, he couldn't have been in heaven before the throne, which is where all NT believers (under the N. Covenant) go. Right? Also, was the plan of redemption only the death of christ or did it also entail, the burial, resurrection ascention and seating? If so, that would mean he didn't die under the NT. Was the plan of redemption finished on the cross. If that's the case why wait 40 days to send the Holy Spirit? When did Jesus enter into the heavenly Holy of holies with His own blood to obtain an eternal redemption? During the 3 days and nights? OR was that an immediate action? He died and instantly he was pouring out his blood before God. Or was the pouring out of his blood done at the cross and not in heaven? if that's the case why then did hebrews say he entered heaven itself with His own blood? The earthly tabernacal was symbolic,a shadow of the heavenly. At what point did Jesus go to paradise if he entered heaven immediately. Did the thief follow him to heaven or paradise? Lots to think about isn't it? When and where was redemptive act completed? If Christ was not raised we are still in sins... Not only that, Romans says, who was delivered up (crucified and died) because of our offences AND WAS RAISED BECAUSE OF OUR JUSTIFICATION. interesting interesting. How about this...if in the work of Christ was included everything from the cross to the seating, is the usage of the word CROSS in the NT refering to all of that (deathburialres.ascentionseating) unless stated otherwise by the scripture? By the way, even though I'm a bit sarcastic at times, i'm really sincere. Sorry if I come across harsh. i'm still working out my salvation. Sorry it's all a mess, I gotta write fast so I don't loose my train of thought. |

4 | Are you refering to the thief ? | Matt 10:1 | McGracer | 54114
Andes, I'm pressed for time also, so I'll reply to the first question and leave the rest for others. :) The New Covenant went into effect at the shedding of Christ's blood. Covenants require the shedding of blood to put them into effect. So the thief on the cross actually died AFTER the New Covenant went into effect. Jesus told him that He would be with him in Paradise that day and I'll leave all the rest for others to argue about. :) McGracer |

5 | Are you refering to the thief ? | Matt 10:1 | In the Andes | 54127
So you are asserting that the thief went straight to heaven. that doesn't seem to answer the pending question, to be born again, brought into the New Covenant...Must one believe that Jesus was raised from the dead? |

Andes, Technically, everyone is now born under the New Covenant dispensation. This is the age of grace. They enter into the benefits of the New Covenant by faith in Christ. While the thief on the cross' experienced bridged both the close of one covenant and the start of another, I find it foolish to argue that his experience is the "yardstick" by which we judge our salvation. The New Covenant, according to Hebrews, primarily has to do with the forgiveness of sins. Of course it entails other aspects as well. What really matters is not what happened to the thief (for we don't know exactly) but, rather, what will you do with Jesus Christ? The rest of the New Testament reveals the fullness of the gospel and what it entails. God does not tell us everything He knows. But He does reveal what we need to know. I'm sure I haven't answered your question to your satisfaction but I think I just saw a question about who Cain married that really needs to be answered. :) McGracer |
