Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted! Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles, who had the Spirit of God, yet lost his soul. This teaches us, that just because one starts out as a child of God's, doesn't mean you will end up that way. We must be faithful unto death. Rev 2:10 to receive a crown of life. Acts 5:1-11 Ananias and Sapphira another example died in sin. So we must be faithful unto death. |

Dear Grace and Truth, I'm not quite sure that your brief refutation of "Once saved, always saved" stands up to scrutiny. Could you provide some further clarification, perhaps? You state that"Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles, who had the Spirit of God, yet lost his soul". On what scriptural basis would you conclude he had the Spirit of God? I believe he had the spirit of the world, but the "Spirit of God" would be highly questionable.(1 Cor. 2:12) From scripture alone I don't know that we could draw that inference. Certainly the Apostle Johns' description in 1 Jn. 2:19 seems to fit Judas more aptly. Was he really a believer? I do not believe he was from a SCRIPTURAL basis.( Ananias and Sapphira would also fit into this category) Further, Johns warning in 1 Jn. 4:1-6 (to test the spirits) would seem to provide a pretty good framework for ascertaining whether one was truly a believer or not. (ultimately, only God knows the heart-Jer.17:9-10) Lastly, we do enter in a debatable matter regarding Eternal Security. I as see it eternal life is either that or God is the author of confusion. Eternal cannot be temporal! Both Eph. 2:8-9 and Titus 3:5 are very clear that we are not saved based upon our good works! Are we to conclude that our salvation is based upon faith, but our standing is based upon our works? Paul refutes this very soundly in Galatians 3:1-3. Also, how would you deal with John 10:28-30? Respectfully Yours In Christ, Bradk |

4 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | Reformer Joe | 54081 | ||
Jesus was speaking to churches, not individuals in Revelation 2-3. Those who do not live a faithful life until death were never truly faithful in the first place. --Joe! |

Yes, but collectively the church is more than just the sum of its parts. Christ's lampstand represents His presence among the congregation, not the salvation or damnation of every individual in the congregation. --Joe! |
