1 | Any more information on this? | Matthew | GeorJoy | 93254
Concerning 1 Pe 3:19; Most likely this is a reference to the preincarnate Christ's preaching through Noah to those, who because they rejected the message are now spirits in prison. There are many views on this point. That is just what they are "views," for there is no scriptural foundation (that I have found) to support anything other than ones own interpritation. George |

2 | No point in preaching to the lost? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93260
Why would Jesus bother to preach to those who'd already lost their chance for salvation? Doesn't each of us have to choose to believe or not believe while still living? And even if Christ had not yet come, isn't each person judged based on whether they believed in God and waited in anticipation for Christ to come? Why would he preach to the unsaved. What would it accomplish? Chusarcik |

3 | No point in preaching to the lost? | Matthew | Hank | 93264
Hello, Chusarcik. Unlike the religious philosophers of His time, or of any other time, Jesus had the faculty of reducing His thought on any subject to the simplest and plainest terms possible. One day Jesus sat down at a table and many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down at the table with Him and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw what was going on, they asked Jesus' disciples essentially the same question you have asked, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" When Jesus heard their question, He responded, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick." [Matthew 9:9-12] ..... Did Jesus answer your question, Chusarcik? --Hank
4 | I unerstand, but that's not my question | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93314
I understand that Jesus was giving the information to try to get sinners to repent, but that is not my question. My question is, "What was the Jesus' purpose in going to the center of the earth for 3 days?" It doesn't seem He could have been preaching repentance, because those in the center of the earth were no longer living and each person must choose to believe or not believe before he dies. Can anyone answer my question? Chusarcik
5 | I unerstand, but that's not my question | Matthew | gracefull | 93318
Hello Chusarcil, While I believe 3 days in the 'heart of the earth' is debatable as Hell, Gehenna, Abraham's Bosom, Paradise, etc.....the question you ask here is who was Jesus preaching to? The faithful dead...Those who died under the Old Covenant in faithful looking forward to Jesus redemptive work. Hebrews 11:39-40 39 And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect. Does that help? Or have I jumped in here also 'missing the point'? God bless |

6 | 1 Peter doesn't sound like faithful dead | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93356
Let me put my question another way: It sounds like Jesus WAS referring to the faithful dead Matthew 12:40 but in 1 Peter 3:19-20 which I was given as a second reference for what Jesus did in the center of the earth (or whatever place it was that he went for 3 days) it says, "He went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built" The 1 Peter reference, on the other hand, doesn't sound like faithful dead. Why would He refer to all the faithful dead as only specifically the spirits that "disobeyed while the ark was being built". Is he speaking of the same group of people in these two passages? Thanks for your input. Chusarcik

Chusarcik, look at Prov.9;18, psal,86:13,9:17,88:3,89:48 and Gen 44:29, try to get a hold of the book ,Charting the End Times, by Tim LaHaye, it will help you understand again, the old test. Saints had to go throu the same door as we do, and thats why Jesus had to fulfill prophecy and go to the center of the earth to preach the gospell to the captives and set them free.
