1 | Filled with the Holy Spirit or not? | 1 Tim 2:12 | DocTrinsograce | 147746 | ||
Dear Chris, I cannot support this from Scripture, but I've seen it happen many times. People salvificly come to the Lord but are not yet aware of all the benefits that accrue to such a thing. Consequently, they aren't aware that they are now sealed by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps they only know the name Jesus, and what He has done for them at Calvary... and even this, they only know indistinctly. One of the wonderful things about Christianity is that we never stop learning and growing. That is one of the evidences of our salvation. It isn't long when we begin to bear fruit, hate sin, and increase in our Love of the Lord. In Him, Doc PS The phrase "asking Christ to come into his heart" does not appear in Scripture. That's a modern turn of phrase. Also, in my understand, regeneration can and does occur before the asking of anything. The logical sequence of events in salvation is a study called ordo salutis. |

Hi, Doc thank you for your comments relating to my question. I believe people are drawn supernaturally to Christ, it happened to me. That day when I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior there were a lot of things I didn't know about; But God responded to my child like faith when I cried out to Him and asked Him to forgive my sinful life. God did something to me that day, He put hope in me. See God responds to faith. Heb 11:6 says without faith it is impossible to please Him and that we have to believe that He exists and also that He rewards us when we seek Him in faith. So in faith I asked Christ into my heart. I received Him like it says in John 1:12,13 We know that we are His temple, that He dwells in the heart of men. but He won't dwell in our hearts unless we ask Him to. My life didn't begin to change until I asked Him (received Him, invited Him) into my heart. But I wouldn't have got that opportunity unless someone shared the good news of Christ with me. I had to come to terms with my sinful lifestyle and selfish ways and repent. I'm not sure what (ordo salutis) is but I do know what has happened to me and if we look at some examples in the bible we can see that salvation is a gift given to us by Chris Jesus. One example: the thief didn't have time to study out his salvation but just believed in Christ and asked him to remember him. We all know thay he was going to heaven. Do we confess Jesus before men? The word says we must. Matt 10:32 or Christ won't confess us before the Father. And we need the Holy Spirit to do this effectively Acts 1:8 |
