1 | The Holy Spirit in us.. | 1 Tim 2:12 | chris4him | 147574
FIRST - Are we ready to allow the Holy Spirit to empower us to witness. Acts 1:8 Jesus didn't want His followers going out to be His witness without His Holy Spirit to empower them first. Is the church out there trying to do God's will and witness without His Holy Spirit? Do you believe you automatically receive the Holy Spirit when you give your life to Christ and become born again? Thanks for your answers in Christ, Chris
2 | The Holy Spirit in us.. | 1 Tim 2:12 | LuvGod77 | 147578
I do believe that you receive the Holy Spirit when you give your life over to Christ. For we when we confess by our mouth, we are saved. WE become a new creation IN Christ. We also become a living temple for Christ. All these things are in scripture. Jesus also gave the instruction for us to go and tell the nations.
3 | We must ask... | 1 Tim 2:12 | chris4him | 147675
When the people were gathered in the upper room in Acts 2 they were there because Christ told them to wait for the Holy Spirit. They were all believers in Christ, born again, Christ had died for thier sins just like me and you but they weren't empowered yet. In Acts chapter 19 Paul came across some believers while he was going through Ephesus, recognizing them as believers but asked them "have you received the Holy Spirit since you belived?" They obviously hadn't. In Luke 11:13 Jesus says the Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Not just if you believe in His Son and are born again. Jesus says we must ask the Father. Don't you ever wonder why the Church isn't walking in power (signs and wonders) that it did at the time Acts was written? The last verse in the book of Mark says "And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following, Amen." The word says that the latter church will be greater than the former. meaning that the church today will be greater than the church in the book of Acts. We need the Holy Spirit. We need the gifts He brings to empower us to reach the lost of this world. In one of Paul's epistles it says that we can now go BOLDLY to the thone of grace. and ask Him for His most Holy Spirit to empower and guide us. Sorry I'm so long winded but until the body of Christ starts asking the Father for His Holy Spirit we'll never reach the lost, the reason Christ tarries His return. Christ wants us to walk in love but also POWER and a sound mind 2Tim 1:7 God bless with revelation power!! |

Thank you, Chris... but what is the question?
5 | Filled with the Holy Spirit or not? | 1 Tim 2:12 | chris4him | 147745
Hi, sorry I guess I got a little carried away. The question in view of the scripture provided in my last (note); could someone be filled with the Holy Spirit of God without having asked the Father specifically for Him, even though that someone is a born again believer having asked Christ to come into his heart?
6 | Filled with the Holy Spirit or not? | 1 Tim 2:12 | DocTrinsograce | 147746
Dear Chris, I cannot support this from Scripture, but I've seen it happen many times. People salvificly come to the Lord but are not yet aware of all the benefits that accrue to such a thing. Consequently, they aren't aware that they are now sealed by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps they only know the name Jesus, and what He has done for them at Calvary... and even this, they only know indistinctly. One of the wonderful things about Christianity is that we never stop learning and growing. That is one of the evidences of our salvation. It isn't long when we begin to bear fruit, hate sin, and increase in our Love of the Lord. In Him, Doc PS The phrase "asking Christ to come into his heart" does not appear in Scripture. That's a modern turn of phrase. Also, in my understand, regeneration can and does occur before the asking of anything. The logical sequence of events in salvation is a study called ordo salutis. |

7 | Filled with the Holy Spirit or not? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Ray | 147772
Hi Doc, You wrote, "People salvificly come to the Lord but are not yet aware of all the benefits that accrue to such a thing." Would you care to start a new thread with a question on Ephesians 1:13? I think that we are sealed in Him with the holy spirit which is given as a pledge of our inheritance. I would have you consider a lower case "holy spirit" for Acts 19:2 as well. If you want to discuss either Ephesians or Acts, let me know. I think that this thread is pretty long. From the heart, Ray |
