Does Bible Teach "Any Moment" Rapture? ____________________ 'The concept that Christ could return at "any moment" since His departure back to heaven is simply not taught anywhere in the entire Bible.' ____________________ 'WHAT ABOUT IMMINENCY? '...the doctrine of imminency is nowhere taught in Scripture. The concept that Christ could return at "any moment" since His departure back to heaven is simply not taught anywhere in the entire Bible. Not one of the passages used to sustain imminency, actually teach imminency. Expectancy, yes. Imminency (an any-moment rapture), no. 'If imminency had been the concept that the writers had wanted to convey, it could have and would have been clearly stated (in fact 19th century promoters of pretribulationism initially taught expectancy rather than imminency for this reason). In addition, there were many events prophesied by Christ, known throughout the Christian world at that time, that still had to occur before He could return, such as the destruction of the Temple (Lk. 21:6) and the death of Peter (Jn. 21:18-19). Imminency was an impossibility until the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. 'Likewise, Christ taught that His rescue of the elect of God will occur "on the same day" that His wrath will begin upon the wicked that remain (Lk 17:26-30). There is no gap of time between the rapture and His wrath. If the seventieth week of Daniel is really the wrath of God, as pretribulationism maintains, and the seventieth week begins with Israel's covenant with Antichrist (Dan. 9:27), then Israel must be back in the land AND ANTICHRIST MUST BE ON THE WORLD SCENE BEFORE the Rapture, a simple deduction which once again destroys the unbiblical concept of imminency. 'But the prewrath position has no problem with any of these passages, including Revelation 12:12, where the persecution of Antichrist against the "elect" of God during the great tribulation is not called the wrath of God, but rather, the wrath of Satan. Pretribulationism makes Antichrist's persecution of God's elect the wrath of God. Prewrath rapturism sees this great persecution as the wrath of Satan (Rev. 12:12). Antichrist's persecution of God's elect is never the wrath of God (Mt. 24:21-22; Rev. 12:7; 13:7; 14:12-13).' ____________________ Questions for a Pretribulationist (Emphasis added.) All prophecies have been fulfilled which need to be fulfilled before the return of Christ; therefore, his return is imminent. | ||||||

No, they haven't. See 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4. All prophecies that need to be fulfilled before the return of Christ have NOT been fulfilled. Here are two prophecies yet to be fulfilled (and the Scriptures to back it up): - the rebellion (apostasy, falling away) comes first - the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction (the beast, the antichrist) "That Day" (the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him) will not come unless and until the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 :: New King James Version (NKJV) 1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Kalos, Regarding 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4: You've got me there. I can't argue with that. It is very plainly talking about the Rapture. I have been taught imminence for the entirety of my salvation experience (13 years) and now I must study this thoroughly and pray and ask God to show me what is right. Thank you, Kalos, for your very wise counsel. You are right about the evidence. I just took my pastor's word for it that all prophecies have been fulfilled. But you have shown me what God's Word says, and I agree with you about the two prophecies which have not yet been fulfilled. Blessings to you, Janae. Blesssings to you, Janae |

Hi Janae, 2 Thessalonians 2 1 ¶ And, brothers, we entreat you, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together to Him, 2 for you not to be quickly shaken in the mind, nor to be disturbed, neither through a spirit, nor through speech, nor through letter, as through us, as if the Day of Christ has come. 3 ¶ Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, because that Day will not come unless first comes the falling away, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, (Jay P. Green Literal Version) To my reading, the Thessalonian people were thinking that the Day of Christ had come. Paul say no, first must be the "apostasia", falling away, or departure, and also the man of sin to be revealed. These are prerequisite prophecies to the Day of Christ, which I understand to be the Day of the Lord, not prerequisite to the rapture. I beleive that the rapture is the "apostasia", which must come before the Day of the Lord. Since when did the Church not experience spiritual falling away? This is a very divisive topic, most unfortunately. I encourage you most strongly to study this issue for youself, without any preconceptions, and check every referrence others offer to prove their sides. Myself, I believe in a pre-tribulation rapture, although not in the same way as my church taught and still teaches. There are very good points to be made by the pre-wrath view, addressing issues that are problematic with the traditional pre-trib view, however, the question is "when does the wrath of God begin?". I believe it begins at the very beginning of the tribulation as the Day comes as a sudden destruction, as a thief in the night. (see 2nd Peter). I have done much personal study of this issue, and have far too many notes and scriptures to post on this forum, however, if you wish to review my studies, you may contact me via email (see my profile). The Bible does teach Jesus' immanent return. Mark 13:32 "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." Count the days from the abomination that causes desolation, and you will know when Jesus' "shining forth", His coming in glory, will be. What is this coming, which Jesus does not say "watch for the antichrist" or "watch for the tribulation", but rather "watch for the Son of Man"? Keep looking up! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi, Mark. Thanks for your input. I wrote a very long reply to you, but it doesn't seem to be here now, so I will start again. I do intend to contact you via e-mail to get your study notes on this subject, if you don't mind. That would be a wonderful help to me. My mind has been blown today because I have always been taught that all prophecies have been fulfilled and that Christ's return is imminent. I guess I have led a "sheltered" Christian life, because I don't know many Christians other than those who attend my church, and we get the same teaching, of course. Until today, I did not even know there was another view as to when the Rapture would occur! And, I want to thank you for pointing out that the "falling away" of 2 Thessalonians 2:3 would mean the Rapture, since, as you so rightly say, the church has always experienced spiritual falling away. That does make great sense. Your e-mail was very comforting to me. Thank you. God Bless you ALWAYS! Love in Christ Jesus, Janae. P.S. I looked at your profile, and could not determine how to contact you. |
