Hi Doc.:: I know it has been awile since your post but. Sounds like you have a couple of thoughts, that might open new doors. Is there any light you feel should be shed? You say: 1) Do these other uses of the word help us to shed light on the sense of "filled in the Spirit?" 2) In other words, if we set it aside as a theological expression, and look at it linguistically, what can we learn? Hi, newwine... It wasn't meant as two separate questions. One cannot rightly divide the Word without a theological context. However, Pentecostalism, in all its various flavors, has this particular phrase so loaded with presupposition, that it hinders a proper grammatical interpretation. (Scripture never -- not ever -- means something that it never originally meant.) Shrugging aside all the baggage might actually yield some benefit to our study of the Word.
