1 | How to follow, walk in the Spirit? | Gal 5:16 | Morant61 | 211486
Greetings Newwine! Concerning the repeated fillings, I understand that Acts 2:4 is the initial filling. I simply included it to demonstrate that it had already taken place by the time the other two are mentioned. :-) There were a couple other verses that I did not include for a technical reason. Both of them had the verb 'to be filled' in an aorist participle form. These could be translated, 'having been filled' and thus could be referring back to Acts 2:4 or they could be referring to action taking place after a new filling. Since there is some doubt, I left those two verses out. There is also the case of Paul, where Ananais says in 9:17, "Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit." Verse 18 tells us that Paul does receive his sight, so one could presume that he also was filled with the Holy Spirit. In which case, Acts 13:9 would indicate a second filling for him as well. I was curious though as to why you would say that the original verses I cited stretch the imagination? They speak of subsequent fillings, so why would that stretch the imagination? :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | How to follow, walk in the Spirit? | Gal 5:16 | lionheart | 211490
Tim, The question I've always had in approaching this subject goes back to Acts 2:38. How can the need for repeated fillings or repeated fillings be explained. How do we approach this. In Him, lionheart |

3 | How to follow, walk in the Spirit? | Gal 5:16 | Morant61 | 211537
Greetings Lionheart! Scripture never specifically spells out why repeated fillings are needed, so I could only speculate. 1) Scripture demonstrates that the disciples, and Paul, were filled more than once with the Holy Spirit. 2) The command to Christians (Eph. 5:18) is a present tense imperative, indicating ongoing fillings. 3) The 'fillings' seem to always occur when some special empowerment of the Spirit was needed in their lives. Acts 2:38 would not really apply to this topic as it is discussing the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which occurs at salvation, and is only a one time event. My understanding is one baptism, but many fillings. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | How to follow, walk in the Spirit? | Gal 5:16 | DocTrinsograce | 211542
Hi, Tim... I note that the word filled (is it playtho?) is used of many other things in Scripture (people in a room, sound in a building, lies of Satan in a human heart, etc.). Do these other uses of the word help us to shed light on the sense of "filled in the Spirit?" In other words, if we set it aside as a theological expression, and look at it linguistically, what can we learn? In Him, Doc |
