1 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | Morant61 | 132339
Greetings Alien Resident! You keep making 'interpretative' statements that are simply not found in Scripture my friend. For instance, you wrote: "Any perfect creature could stand in for another perfect creature, and any sinful creature could do the same for his sinful brother." Where exactly does Scripture say this? Your understanding of God's justice and what Scripture actually says about God's justice may be two different things. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

You correctly say: "Your understanding of God's justice and what Scripture actually says about God's justice may be two different things." Of course, you wouldn't exclude yourself from this truism. Thus, we seek as for hidden treasure to gain the very knowledge of God that He promises to truthseekers. The power of reason cannot be avoided, though it might seem convenient. You probably can think of an example of someone that has absolutely believed he was following the correct interpretation of the Bible as he carried out some ungodly act. Not only can one look at a verse and misinterpret it, he can fail to see the obvious that is not directly stated. In addition, the Bible does not contradict itself. For instance, the Ex 21:30 mentions the death may be redeemed for a price, but Psalm 49:7,8 says no one can redeem a even a brother, the price is too high. Reason tells us the first verse relates to a temporary solution while the latter is speaking of our eternal redemption. I'm trying to reason on why the Scriptures say “The first man Adam became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." Jesus resembled Adam before his downfall. (Rom 5:14) Created in God's image and likeness, he perfectly reflecting God's glory, to a far greater extent than is possible for God's other physical creations. This man was to be our "eternal father." Most people do not grasp, because their teachers ignore, the superiority of Adam to us as his defective progeny. In so doing, they overlook the purposeful God of the Bible and the marvelous hope made possible by the ransom. Many even teach that Adam repented and reigns in heaven with Jesus! Show me the Scriptural support for that. |

3 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | Morant61 | 132348
Greetings Alien Resident! I'm just very cautious my friend about things that are 'supposed' to be stated in the Bible but aren't! :-) An yes, we all can fall prey to this dangerous practice. That is why I try very carefully to couch my statements in such a way that they only say what Scripture actually says. So, let's look at some of the verses you cite in this post. 1) Ex. 21:30: This passage concerns the civil laws of the Mosaic Law. It may or may not be applicable to God Himself. 2) Ps. 49:7-8: This verse I would actually say proves that God Himself would have to pay the ransom. This passage quite clearly says, 'No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him'. The verse doesn't say no 'imperfect' man. It just says, 'no man'. 3) Rom. 5:14: This verse doesn't say that Christ was like Adam. It says that Adam was a 'type' of the one to come. Heb. 8:5 uses the same word of the santuary, but clearly states that the 'type' is only a 'shadow' of the reality. So, the 'type' is a foreshadowing of the reality. Thus, Rom. 5:14 is not saying that Jesus was exactly like Adam, but that Adam was an imperfect foreshadowing of Christ. Thus, I still haven't seen any clear statements that the ransom had to be just like Adam. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

You said: "This passage (Ex. 21:30) concerns the civil laws of the Mosaic Law. It may or may not be applicable to God Himself." I profess that God will not violate a law that he expects us to keep. Thus He gave his only Son as great cost to Him rather than creating a new Adam. If Psalm 49:7,8 "proves that God Himself would have to pay the ransom," then Jesus was not a man at all. This God/man mystery has alway irritated me. As regards, Rom 5:14, in what way did Adam imperfectly foreshadow Christ? He perfectly foreshadowed him in his nature as a sinless man, but I fail to see how he typified Christ imperfectly. The high priest prefigured Jesus in Paul's explanation, not Adam. Adam's sin is the reason why the whole law, priesthood and sacrifice arrangement were instituted. |

Greetings Alien Resident! You wrote: "If Psalm 49:7,8 "proves that God Himself would have to pay the ransom," then Jesus was not a man at all. This God/man mystery has alway irritated me." Allow me to ask a question of you my friend. Do you believe that Jesus is God? Your answer may clear up some of the difficulties we have been having in this conversation. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

6 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | alienresident | 132361
Tim: In a previous post you cited 1 John 5:7 in support of the ransom having to be God Himself. If you're quoting the KJ, do you know that this verse is not inspired of God, but inserted in later copies? If not, can you explain why you used it? I could sit here and try to convince you how ridiculous it is to try to claim Jesus was both 100 percent man and 100 percent God, but why? He has to be either one or the other in my mind in order to conform to rational thought. Don't ask me to think irrationally for that's what Satan wants and I know you wouldn't intentionally side with him. |

Alien, You must be a JW based upon your claims. It is not your mind (or mine) that determines or conforms to rational thought: It is the revealed Word of God (John 17:17). This is part or your error:-) Why is it ridiculous to try and claim Jesus was both 100 percent God and man? Scripture makes such a claim clearly in 2 Tim. 2:5! It is also taught in Phil 2:5-8 and Hebrews chapter 2 and 3. This is an Orthodox teaching of the Christian church, my friend. Of course, anyone lead through the murky waters of Charles Taze Russell, Fredrick Franz and the Watchtower Organization would not clearly see this. May the Lord remove the veil that covers your understanding of a clearly taught and essential truth of Christianity. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
