Let's bring this closer to home! You and I believe that we are saved, right? If I turn from following the Lord and die in sin will I go to heaven?
2 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | BradK | 53943
Dear Grace and Truth, Since you asked, I'll kindly answer. I KNOW that I'm saved (1 John 5:11-13) based upon the all sufficient sacrifice of Christ and His atoning death on the cross. There's no guesswork. In answer to your second question, now we're getting into the realm of supposition. Can a (true) believer really "turn from following the Lord and die in sin"? I don't honestly see any Biblical basis to support this hypothesis. I think the more appropriate question to ask is: "Why would someone who is totally forgiven, In Christ, accepted in the Beloved, blessed with all the spiritual blessings in Christ, a new creation, totally loved, free from condemnation, and complete in Him want to turn from this? I haven't yet figured out how or why this could happen. As I understand scripture(and we may disagree here) my position In Christ is not based upon my walk, but upon His all-sufficient sacrifice! Brother, I hope this helps and explains my position adequately. Speaking the Truth in Love, Bradk |

We have this principle in the book of Ezekiel 18, we need to understand that one can turn and be lost forever. Look at what Ezekiel says.
4 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | BradK | 53949
Dear Grace and Truth, I must respectfully, take issue with the "principle" you state from Ezek.18:4-32. I would not go to the OT to find doctrine regarding salvation as a NT Body of Christ member! To do so is to not "rightly divide the word of truth". Ezekiel is NOT written to the Body of Christ, but to the Jews under the Law. Further, they were not indwelt with the Holy Spirit, and Christ had not paid the penalty for their(Israels) sins. You are confusing a very basic issue between Law and Grace. Failure to heed the differences of scripture results in confusion and inconsistency in interpretation. Galatians 3:10-14 my friend! Still speaking the Truth in Love, Bradk |

Dear Grace and Truth, I do acknowledge your response and agree with Rom. 15:4. However, we seem to be at an impasse, and that's ok! I'll respectfully end this discussion in the spirit of love. I would like to ask one closing question regarding our eternal security: "Is it based upon the OT promises under the Law or the finality of Christs' atoning death?" Respectfully Yours In Christ, Bradk |

"the finality of Christs' atoning death?" If we are faithful unto death. |

Grace and Truth, Sorry, bro, these don't mix. Your salvation cannot be completely based on Christ's finished work AND your faithfulness. Your faithfulness is works, bro, and NO ONE is completely faithful EXCEPT God. Ya just can't have it both ways. It is Christ alone. McGracer |

If that concept is true, after you have been saved, just go live anyway you want to then, you say it's in Christ alone, and you're safe so just go out there and have fun! I dare you!
10 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | McGracer | 54072
Grace and Truth, Yes and no. I can go live anyway I want to. BUT He changes my WANT TO. I now what Christ to be my life - Col 3:4. I want to learn to say with Paul, "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." I want to learn to grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord. I want to read my Bible and learn more of Him for who died for me (and now lives in me). I want to edify my brothers and sisters in Christ and yet speak the truth, for truth sets us free. I want to support my local church for God is using it in my community to reach others for Christ. I want to intercede in prayer on the behalf of others and lead them to come to know who they are in Christ. Christ does not save us and then walk away. He now indwells us through the Holy Spirit and leads and guides us. I am now learning to live the Christ-life. I am safe in Him forever and I'm ready to go out and have fun lifting up my Lord. Thanks for the dare! I'll take it! McGracer |

My point is this, someone can come to Christ and fall away even years after living for him. Matt 13:1-9;18-23 Jesus breaks it down plane and clear.

Hello Grace and Truth Let's look at the parable--one sower, one type of seed, four soils. 1. Hard soil--the person just doesn't understand what is being said. 2. Rocky soil--understands and receives the seed but it never takes root. 3. Thorny soil--understands and receives the seed but it never bears fruit. 4. Good soil--understands and receives the seed and bears fruit. What are their conditions? 1. Never got it. Can't be a believer. 2. Never took root. Can't be a believer. 3. Grew and was unfruitful. Possibly a believer. 4. Grew and was fruitful. Definitely a believer. I say "possibly" for #3, but from an agricultural viewpoint, the only one that matters is #4. That one is the only soil that produced anything. That being the case, the other three conditions never could have had life (i.e. were never believers). Steve |

3. Grew and was unfruitful. Possibly a believer. Either this person is in or out, there is no middle ground. If in, Jesus said this person is now lost forever. true or false? |
