Subject: Then it's all settled? |
Bible Note: John Reformed - Some things never change, do they? "Gentiles" in Acts 11:18 doesn't really mean Gentiles as it is written. It doesn't mean "all" Gentiles either -- certainly not! That would conflict with certain pre-suppositions about the nature and scope of divine election. The text must be foot-noted so that it will mean what one wants it to mean in order for it to comply with one's system of theology. ..... A word on Forum debates. Debater A takes one side of an issue and Debater B takes the other. The debate does not challenge A's pre-suppositions. It does not challenge B's pre-suppositions. It merely drives the wedge deeper into both A's and B's biases and pre-suppositions. Each is so engrossed in proving his point that he is blinded to see whatever validity there may be in the argument of the other -- and likely as not, both A and B are blinded so that they cannot see what the Bible actually teaches about the topic on which they are so desperating seeking to prove themselves the victor of the debate. The outcome is not victory of truth over error. It is rather a fallout of rancor, division, and ill will, none of which can be viewed as desirable fruits of the labor of debating. --Hank |
