Bible Note: Greetings, Well, for starters my wife and I go to a nondenominational church. I wish I was kidding about the amount of time spent disseminating Bible doctrine. The main service last a little over and hour; 10 minutes for weekly info, 30 minutes of singing, and about 20 minutes of preaching. The general biblical knowledge of the congregation is very shallow to say the most. Those, that we have fellowship with, have a hard time handling milk much less the strong meat of the Word. Hebrews 5:13-14 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. [14] But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. Our local church uses the (NIV), which if I had to evaluate it, would rate low on the translation of meaning. I believe that the (NASB) is probably the best and the closest to the Koine Greek for thought meaning. If the English were word for word for the Koine Greek most couldn’t read it since our language is expressed nearly opposite of Greek. The use of diacritical marks in a language shows the absence of accurate thought communication. I’ve memorized all of the verses that I know from the old (KJV) and you know the “old dog and the new trick concept;” I’m the old dog. I use close to 12 different translations when doing serious studies and when trying to break down individual words in the New Testament I use the Koine Greek. I studied for close to twenty years under a pastor that was a master of the original languages. Every time he taught he would use an overhead projector to help communicate doctrine. He could write faster backwards in Hebrew then I could write forward in English. He graduated the highest is his class from Dallas Theological Seminary. He acquired the science of textual criticism and further study of the original language, for a total of five years of Hebrew and nine of Greek. He conducted church service every day but Saturday and many days he was so sick he could hardly stand. His favorite English translation was the (NASV). I’m getting up in years now and I can tell you from experience that when things start to go wrong in your life, and things will go wrong, that the only thing that will sustain you is the Bible doctrine that you’ve stored in your soul. All of the nice songs and the Bible doctrine that you “didn’t learn” won’t help you a bit! One needs the promises of God and the ability to claim them. Not to burst your bubble, but in all of the New Testament how much time is devoted to singing; figure out the percentage on that one and I believe you will be shocked. Have a great day and, 2 Tim, 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. CDBJ |
