Subject: In what ways? |
Bible Note: Not a lot of time here, I'm afraid brother Tim. I "got all that" from a series of statements that Angel3 made in a variety of responses to you and others in this thread. I was summing up as you have done for me at times when I misunderstood a post. (And I appreciate it.) Look up the "regulative principle" for worship if you are interested in what I believe. You can find it in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, but it has a long history of discussion. (There are reasons for the ways of doing things that our forefathers chose, brother. Traditions and ideas *should* be jettisoned when they don't line up with scripture, but they ought to be thoroughly understood before hand, and the process should be slow and methodical. There are too many instances of people approaching God inappropriately in scripture for us to not take this seriously.) As music minister you should always, entirely, and utterly be focused on God and God alone. All you do should bring Him glory, while before the congregation and while in private. Preaching the Word is teaching the entire Word of God so as to bring out the plain meaning of scripture. Preaching is also part of worship. You should do all things well and as unto the Lord. Did you really need answers to these questions? Sorry for not citing chapter verse... You can find plenty of explanation online. There is a much written about this subject -- which isn't about culture, style, denomination, or even tradition. In Him, Doc PS I'm sorry, but I really don't think this Warren debate is going anywhere. I cited specifics, but we seem to be all over the generalities again. God is a sovereign God... I am utterly confident that He will use the "Church Growth Movement" as He sees fit -- one way or another. Lets move on to our deliberation the scriptures. |
