Bible Question:
Here is a quote I recently came across. Do you believe the author is justified in this statement? What are your thoughts? "Our churches no longer have the power of God to attract the people. They go down to Egypt, borrow its music, its dancing, it's entertainment, hoping for a crowd! No passion for souls - just crowds! Church growth at any cost! Look at the average church bulletin; it looks like a theater calendar. (Dave Wilkerson – Times Square Pulpit Series – The Great Apostasy – May 7, 1986) New Creature |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Mat 5:13-16, Col 4:2-6 ......... Worshiptainment is a good word. Worship is a word that very few understand. It has been modified to meet the desires of the culture. We say worship dance, for example ... but, I only see it as a part of praise, which is not worship. Worship is being prostrate before God, who has absolute rule over us (you). Since that is uncomfotable, we say that singing is worship (it may be - BUT not all music we sing in church is worship). When we sing praises ... songs of joy ... do we have a smile on our face and heart? Do we sing focused only on Him. Do we need all the musical instruments? I think after my study of worship, churches do tend to entertain or other things ... to get more people to come ... be user friendly. BUT, God has standards and doesn't want a church full of babes, drinking milk. He wants us to grow. We should be on fire ... and if we truly worship - there will be some who flee, like those with Daniel (Dan 10) ... but, we will be where God wants. Off the soapbox, Searcher |
