Bible Note: CDBJ You said "This desire wasn’t something that I had to drum up on my own anymore then one would have to teach an infant how to cry when it is hungry." For clarity let me say the ‘desire’ your talking about is the desire to study, hear and learn the Word. I believe the answer to why others don't have this is they “aren't really saved". Most have responded to an emotional appeal that made them react as the preacher instructed, they might even believe in Jesus but they aren't making Him Lord, Master of their lives. In many cases instead of being His bond servant they want to make Jesus their bond servant. Having Him fetch what ever their hearts desire. I have observed in my life and in many others that when a person is really saved they develop a hunger, a thirst for the word that can not be satisfied any other way than by getting into the Word. This is how the Holy Spirit draws us. I once watched over a 1000 people come to the altar after a tear jerking illustration and an admonishment to meet Jesus. There was no mention of sin, repentance, submitting ones life to Christ, the Blood for the remission of sin, the crucifixion, resurrection, or the forgiveness of sin. When everyone got to the altar the preacher prayed in essence “Heavenly Father welcome these into your kingdom” and then he had everyone rise and told them they were new creations they just had been "born again" and they need to plug into a “good” church, to which he added this is a “GOOD” church of course the rest of the congregation tittered and applauded i approval. That was it. I know in this case many of the people were already regular attenders they just wanted to be close to the preacher. However I think it safe to say for any that weren’t previously saved I can't see anyway they were, yet if asked they would all say they were. EdB |
