Subject: How important is your Church? |
Bible Note: Dear JWeaver, I am non-denominational. Historical Baptists have always been distrustful of anything that might have greater authority than the local congregation (see chapter 26 of the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith). Perhaps my position on the topic of denominationalism, therefore, grants me at least some measure of leeway to ask you the following question: Are you seriously implying that all denominations have their origins in Satan? Since denominations came into existence after the fourth century, the Scripture is silent regarding them. Indeed, the Scripture speaks of the church only in two senses: the local congregation and the universal, invisible body of Christ. Consequently, I cannot imagine that your assertion is based in Scripture. However, if I am mistaken, would you please cite specific passages to support your assertion? In Him, Doc |
