Subject: making wine.Did Jesus make a mistake. |
Bible Note: Dear Ed, You stated: "As to my statement, "I think anything that impairs even slightly the traits the Bible tells us to seek, hinders our relationship with God and yes this is a sin." I will stand by it! That is not to say this happens every time you or anyone ingests some form of alcohol. But the danger is there and it is almost like playing with fire, so in my thinking why do it." First of all, I am not playing with fire. I am enjoying my christian liberty as I see it. I understand that you see it differently, but I am accountable to my Master alone (as are all of us). Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. I believe that each and every day The Holy Spirit is working within me, transforming my mind by applying the truth of God's law to it. Therefore I can say that I know what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God for me. It is contained within law which is written on my heart. Jer 31:33 "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. I realize that your main objective was to show that not all wine mentioned in Scripture is alcoholic, but what would be the point of doing so if not to eliminate any verse that tended to support the view of the "sippin' saints" :-) "Since leavened carried such a meaning and was banned from nearly all Jewish religious celebrations, I think alcoholic wine would have carried the same prohibition. Therefore the cup of the fruit of the vine used by Jesus at Passover was most probably unfermented juice." Sorry Ed, speculation is not evidence. Now if you had proof texts that we could study.... "If you have ever observed fermentation process you will see it a bubbling churning chaotic turmoil that emits foul odors and gases. I believe this is why God chose leaven to be symbolic of sin. When sin enters a life that life become a churning, chaotic turmoil. That emits bad things into the life of all around them". Have you ever been to a sausage factory? Scripture Ed, Scripture. It is not my intent to persuade anyone to act against their conscience. At the same time, I must not allow what I believe to be lawful to be called sin! Rom 14:16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; Brother Ed I have enjoyed our discussion and look forward to talking to you again. Your Brother, John |
