Subject: making wine.Did Jesus make a mistake. |
Bible Note: retxar I like the comments found in the Full Life Bible on this issue. There are hazards associated with alcohol that are just being discovered now. Jesus by His very nature would have been aware of them. Weddings were a very social event and since most married around the same age the assumption that pregnant women were in attendance is not far reaching. Modern medicine has recently proven alcohol to be very destructive to an unborn baby. I can not believe Jesus knowing this would make something that destructive available at the wedding which probably had pregnant women in attendance. Alcohol being nearly tasteless adds little to the flavor of any beverage, that fact supports the assumption that people seek out alcohol for the effects of alcohol rather than taste. The effects of alcohol do not enhance any trait the Bible tells is desirable in our lives. In fact the opposite is true alcohol diminishes may of these traits and in some case incapacitates them completely. Therefore to my view alcohol is counter productive to everything taught in the Bible. On that basis alone I believe when the bible uses the word wine unless it is referring to it in a negative connotation it is talking about non alcoholic fruit juice. You keep up the good work! EdB |
