Subject: Is praying to created beings scriptural? |
Bible Note: Hello Emmaus, Nice answer....But, does being a "partaker" of the divine nature imply that we in any way become divine ourselves? In this life we become partakers of the Holy Spirit. Heb 6:4 "For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,". We partake in a certain sense in that the Spirit dwells within us and works sanctification out in our lives. But we do not share or recieve the essence of divinity within ourselves, thus becoming God-like! In common english usage, one could be said of having "partaken" of a meal, yet it would be absurd to infer that we had become a part of that meal. We simply enjoy and are prospered by the benefits of eating it. Is there any example or teaching in Scripture that instructs us to pray to a saint or an angel? On the contrary: Rom 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 2 Rom 8:27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 3 Rom 8:34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. No one loves His people more than the Lord Jesus. Why would I ask another to intercede on my behalf before The Father? John |
