Bible Question:
Is there anywhere in the Bible where it says that if you do not speak in tongues that you are not saved? I have a co-worker who is adament about the fact that you're not saved if you don't speak in tongues and I would really like to help her because she is very confused. |
Bible Answer: Nedra, the person that you say is so adamant about people speaking in tongues in order to be saved, could you please ask her where the opposite of the good news is in the Bible? The reason why I ask is because I go to a very large nondenominational church that has close to fifty people in it that can't speak a word of any language but they are real good at sign language, which is a continuous thing while our pastor is teaching from the Word. Maybe they should all be informed that Christ didn't die for them and that they can't be saved because they can't speak in tongues; or maybe Peter was wrong when he expressed himself in Acts. Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: I hope you know that I am being fatuous, but that's how ludicrous her thinking when it comes to tongues and salvation. I think that Paul explained it all very well in his letter to the Corinthians along with a summation for those that didn't believe what he said. 1 Cor. 14:36-38 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? 37If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. 38But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. I hope this helps and you might say it to her with a little more love then thy way I wrote it out, since you will be talking to her face to face.
