Bible Question: Two years ago, a brother and a sister in our church had sexual relationship. Both are single. Later the girl was suffered from venereal disease. Two week ago, we discovered a married pastor has sexual relationship with a single sister in the church for one year. The pastor keeps leading praise and worship in many revival meeting. Does the bible have any advise when the church is in such situation? Actually, these thing disappoint me a lot. I have been long for a pure and perfect church for many years. But I think it is impossible now. The church is full of conflict, full of gossip, full of sin. |
Bible Answer: Ivory313; If we listened only to man, the answer would be: Nope, there's not a thing that can be done about this situation. For according to some, 1) We're never ever supposed to judge anyone; 2) Man has no authority to accept anyone into or reject from the local church; 3) We have no duty or obligation toward God whatsoever. The reasoning is that now that we are saved, we automatically obey all the Law. If that be true, then it is also true that no Christian ever sins. However, points number 1-3 are all wrong. All of these points are in error. In fact the Bible does have something to say about your question. 1 Cor. 5:1-5 (ESV) It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans...[2] And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. [3] For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. [4] When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, [5] you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. 1 Cor. 5:9-11 (ESV) I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— [10] not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. [11] But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
