Bible Question:
Is God just or not. This has confused me a bit. We all sin and all fall short. We are all sinners and the wages of sin is death. Just because we believe in Christ, doesn't make us any less a sinner. It is by God's grace alone that we do not end up where all sinners deserve. But that's the question. If a non believer dies, they go to hell. This is a just reward for their sins. But believers sin too. So wouldn't the just reward also be hell? And if we don't get our "just reward" but something else, then wasn't God being merciful and not just? I'm not saying this is a bad thing! Just trying to reconcile this in my head. Bless...ArtS |
Bible Answer: Greetings Art! I come at this question from an Arminian perspective. I think that the answer to your question is found in Rom. 3:21-26, and expanded upon throughout Romans. I would explain it this way. At the cross, Christ atoned for all sin for all people. Romans makes the argument that the extent of the atonement is the same as the extent of the fall. Thus, atonement has been made for all. However, that atonement must be accepted by faith (Jn. 1:12). Those who believe are justified by the sacrifical death of Christ. Those who reject Christ, are left to their own devices so to speak. In this way, God is just. Atonement is provided for all. It is offered to all. All are able to accept it. Those who don't have no one to blame but themselves. Great question! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
