Subject: Mechanical Instruments? |
Bible Note: Greetings Raven! You are correct that the second phrase is modified by 'in your hearts'. Of course, this could also be translated 'with your hearts', which would not preclude musical instruments even in the second phrase. Further, if musical instruments aren't included, why use two words, which would basically mean the same thing in the context. In other words, why say "sing and sing"? However, the first phrase, which includes the word 'psalmos', definitely would include musical instrumentation (by definition). The Bible on a whole doesn't say a whole lot about music of any kind. Of course, the Psalms mention the use of a variety of instruments in worship. While, the New Testament definitely does not prohibit their use. This falls into the same category as the debate about singing hmyns or chorouses, different strokes for different folks! :-) Personally, I play a little piano, and I love to worship by playing.
