Subject: Mechanical Instruments? |
Bible Note: Tim, It is intersting to me that all Old Testament examples of intruments are spelled out. In other words it says something like I will sing and play on stringed instuments. I also noticed that David who wrote Psalms was indeed a musician. And there are a lot of references in the Old Testament to the use of stringed instruments. But also interestingly I found these two scriptures in the Old Testamnet book of Amos which says something you might find intersting; Amos 5 23Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments. Amos 6 5Who sing idly to the sound of stringed instruments, And invent for yourselves musical instruments like David; So this would show to me that God really did not want to hear musical instruments. Contrastly, since the Old Testament is overrun with instruments there is not a single reference to them used in worship in the New Testament. And you can't use Revelation as a crutch to stand on because you know as well as I that the Book of Rvelation was for one a dream and two it is a book of prophecy which is fill with vivid imagery. Besides those Johns point out were Angels and we are not. So since you point out that the word Psalms comes from the Greek word "psalmos" and means to pluck. This word also comes from "psallo" and one of its meanings is to make melody or sing. So in closing could you not say that if God wanted instruments He would have ask for them? Or at least shown them in use in the New Testament? Allow me to leave you with these scriptures, Hebrews 2 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. Hebrews 13 15Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the FRUIT OF OUR LIPS, giving thanks to His name. RAVEN |
