Subject: God grant repentance? |
Bible Note: Greetings Hank! To be fair to Lookn, I also noticed that several of the quotes used verses for support that had nothing to do with the subject. Just for an example, J. I. Packer's quote included the following sentence: ""Regeneration is the spiritual change wrought in the heart of man by the Holy Spirit in which his/her inherently sinful nature is changed so that he/she can respond to God in Faith, and live in accordance with His Will (Matthew 19:28; John 3:3,5,7; Titus 3:5)." Of the five verses cited as support, only one even mentions regeneration (Titus 3:5). Not one mentions any change in the heart. Not one mentions enabling someone to respond to God by faith. And, not one says anything about enabling someone to live according to His will. In fact, the only point that He got right (based upon the Scriptures he cited) is that the Holy Spirit is the agent of regeneration (Titus 3:5). If one can't challenge this kind of inaccurate proof-texting, then what can one challenge? :-) Even famous authors need to be careful that the Scriptures cited actually support what they are saying. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
