NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]. |
Bible Question: Jesus Christ is the "righteousness of God." (Romans 3:21) However, using this reference, (2 Cor 5:21) I was told that believers are the "righteousness of God." Might one get the notion of acquired divinity - (we will all become gods) unless we focus on the words, "IN HIM?" I'd appreciate some input here! |
Bible Answer: The key word in 2nd Corinthians is "believers". If we receive Christ as John 1:12 says we become children of God, born of God. Therefore having rights, and the kingdom of God that dwells inside of each believer (Luke 17:21). Christ becoming our advocate taking our sin, and presenting us righteous before the Father.
