NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]. |
Bible Question: Jesus Christ is the "righteousness of God." (Romans 3:21) However, using this reference, (2 Cor 5:21) I was told that believers are the "righteousness of God." Might one get the notion of acquired divinity - (we will all become gods) unless we focus on the words, "IN HIM?" I'd appreciate some input here! |
Bible Answer: Hi, Mommapbs! I think the operative phrase is "that we might become"... Though a Christian is a coheir with Christ, only at the fullness of times (death of the predecessor) can the full inheritance be received. Yet, since God cannot die this formula does not work fully. But death is still the medium to achieve the inheritance: our death (be it corporal death or a metamorphosis into the new being). As Paul says: Now we see only reflections in a mirror, mere riddles, but then we shall be seeing face to face. Now I can know only imperfectly; but then I shall know just as fully as I am myself known. (1 Corinthians 13:12) but we are all going to be changed, instantly, in the twinkling of an eye, when the last trumpet sounds. The trumpet is going to sound, and then the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed, because this perishable nature of ours must put on imperishability, this mortal nature must put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:52-53) God Bless! Angel |
