NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]. |
Bible Question: Jesus Christ is the "righteousness of God." (Romans 3:21) However, using this reference, (2 Cor 5:21) I was told that believers are the "righteousness of God." Might one get the notion of acquired divinity - (we will all become gods) unless we focus on the words, "IN HIM?" I'd appreciate some input here! |
Bible Answer: Hello Mommapbs, I know by your past posts that you do not believe that "we will all become gods". But, we are promised that in Him we share in His glory. Please reference the following Scriptures: All are in the present tense! (Eph 2:6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: (2Pe 1:3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (2Pe 1:4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. We are partakers of the "divine nature", and since Christ is the righteousness of God then we also are the righteous of God through Christ. terrib |
